Renewed right to study 2022

You can apply for a renewed right to study in order to complete your unfinished degree, if your studies in a Finnish university of applied sciences have ended not more than five years ago.

Handling fee for the application

There is a handling fee of 50 euros charged for the application (Council of State Decree 932/2014 3 §). The fee is payed electronically when submitting the application. The fee is not refunded even if the application is not accepted.

Finnish Student Health Service FSHS

Students attending a university of applied sciences who are entitled to use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) (https://www.yths.fi/en/frontpage/) are required to pay a healthcare fee to Kela for each academic term. All students who are registered as attending for the current term and are studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree are entitled to FSHS services.

If you are entitled to FSHS services, you must pay the student healthcare fee.

Also foreign students must pay the healthcare fee. You don’t have to pay the fee if you have social security coverage from another EU/EEA country or from Switzerland or the United Kingdom and you send the required document of it to Kela.

Length of the study right

The length of the renewed right to study can be 1, 2 or 3 semesters. The study right can begin in the middle of the semester (the semester when the study right begins is included in the amount of semesters for the study right).

The student studying with renewed right to study does not have the right to enrol for non-attendance, and he/she cannot apply for discretionary extension to the studies.

The right to study can only be renewed once (with the exception of situations where all three semesters have not yet been used).

The study right ends in the end of a semester, either on 31 July or 31 December.

Health requirements

In the fields of social services and health care, seafaring and humanities and education the admitted student is required to have a sufficiently good health status and functional capacity to be capable of completing practical assignments and training periods as part of the studies.
